Kayaking Dinosaur National Park Vermillion Falls, Sandwash Basin Colorado Cedar Mountain with Horse in Foreground

ATTRACTIONS

There's so much to do and see in Moffat County, you'll need to schedule a few days just to get a taste. We hope you're not looking for a crowd, because the Moffat County backcountry is untamed by tourists, but accessible to everyone.

Two-thirds of the scenic Dinosaur National Monument is in Moffat County, with it's scenic vistas that some call "the little Grand Canyon." It's a beautiful place to hike, camp, horseback ride or, with a permit, catch some intense rapids on the Green or Yampa River.

Moffat County boasts one of the last remaining herds of wild mustangs in Sandwash Basin, which is also a popular spot for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts.

Brown's Park boasts unseasonally warm temperatures, great river fishing, camping and is a migratory stop for a variety of wildlife and birds. It's also steeped in outlaw history from the days when it was "Browns Hole" and a popular hideout because of it's proximity to three state borders.

Boating and fishing enthusiasts love the newly expanded Elkhead Reservoir. Anglers tackle the tough Northern Pike and the tasty bass.

The reservoir is a great place to waterski or jetski. So bring your boat, watertoys and sunblock.

Whether you want a high desert landscape, to play in the river or trek through the forest, you'll find all that and more when you're in Moffat County.
