Routt
National Forest - the beautiful aspen and pine needled
forest of the Elkhead mountains north of Craig on HWY 13 provide
an excellent high altitude setting for hiking, hunting, photography,
snowmobiling, fishing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding
and mountain biking. Elk, deer, bear, mountain lion, beaver,
and other animals reside in this area and provide excellent
"Watchable Wildlife" opportunities. This area has marked trails and includes
two campgrounds.
Black
Mountain located in Routt National Forest north of
Craig. The area offers spectacular Rocky Mountain scenery
from overlooks and vistas, unlimited picnicking sites, and
a potential to view some of the more than 300 species of wildlife
that inhabit the region. The camping areas serve as ideal
base camps for day hikes, hunting and fishing trips, animal
observation, and inspiring panoramas in an uncrowded atmosphere.
Gates
of Lodore - spectacular red canyon walls tower above the
Green River in Dinosaur National Monument. Offers white-water
rafting (by permit) picnicking, camping, abundant wildlife
and a ranger station.
Irish
Canyon - This colorful and scenic canyon in the northwest
corner of Moffat County, offers Indian rock art, camping,
hiking, climbing and wildlife viewing.
Craig's
