Moffat County stands as one of the premier locations in the world for viewing animals in their native habitat. With more than 3 million acres, 1.7 million acres of which are public lands, Moffat County offers unique access to a variety of species.

We are home to large herds of elk, deer, pronghorn antelope and wild mustangs, as well as many small mammals, birds, including four species of sage grouse, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish - just to name a few.

There are 10 Wilderness Study Areas in Moffat County, as well as the Brown's Park National Wildlife Refuge, Dinosaur National Monument, portions of the Routt and White River National Forests and Sandwash Wild Horse Management Area.
